The foreman reported that general maintenance work had been carried out and the diminishing pipe at the inlet to the filters had been replaced with a 6in. straight pipe. This will allow more water to pass through the filters, and therefore give more pressure in town. Eight water leaks have been attended to on Wanganui and Pukepapa roads, High street, and North. Broadway. The reservoir is holding 16 3 inches of water. The banks are in go >d order. As Mr Wilkins would require his labourers next week to put down gas mains in Wanganui road, he asked the council to grant him a fortnight’s holiday as this will be the best time for him to get away.—Mr. Brant was granted a fortnight’s holiday.

Ou the motion of Councillors Gregory and Price it wa s resolved that Marton Borough Council call the attention of the Minister of Railways to the urgent need for platform cover at Marton station, the lack of which causes serious discomfort in bad weather both to travellers served by Marton, and also to many changing trains at Junction. In view of the traffic concerned, the council considers the work aSked for is much overdue, and trusts the Minister will see his way for immediate attention to be given to it.

Russell street footpath is to be repaired as soon as possible, and work on Stewart street will be placed on estimates.

Mr. T. A. Wilson’s application to lower a culvert in Alexander street was referred to the borough overseer with power to act. The Municipal Swimming Baths will be closed at the end of the month. The council decided to take over newly formed roads and footpaths in Follett street extension. The gas manager submitted thb plan showing allocation of eleven 250 candle-power lamps, including one in the park, and 89 (100 c.p.) lamps at a cost of £4OB ss. Council unanimously adopted the plan.
