FIRES
AT AUCKLAND. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 24. A furniture factory owned by C. W. Nason, and an office connected with Mrs. S. Crozier’s coal and firewood business, were destroyed by fire at Devonport on Sunday night. A fire at Northcote destroyed a store and a four-roomed residence. Mr. and Mrs. Heaton and three children escaped with a small quantity of clothing Two previous outbreaks had occurred at the same premises on January 12th and 13th, withl slight damage. Circumstances lead to the concluson that at least last night’s fire was due to the operations of burglars. AT WHANGAREI. VHANGAREI, March 24. A fire on Saturday night made a clean sweep of Parkins’ tannery, Lower Cameron Street, the flames having complete sway when discovered. Fortunately It was a calm night, otherwise the extent of the mischief would have been much greater, as an explosive cache, a timber mill, and other buildings were in .close proximity.
