AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

Yong tack sam. i HIS MAJESTY’S TO-NIGHT. Wanganui theatregoers are expected , to extend a warm reception to Long i Tack Bam and his unique Chinese men I and women when they make their iqi- , tial appearance at His Majesty’s Theatre this evening. Long Tack Sam and ’ his troupe of Oriental woader workers , are said to be the most expensive en ' gagement ever made bp Mr H. G. Musgrove, of the Tivoli Theatres, Sydney and Melbourne. All the Australian papers write in glowing terms of this act, and at the farewell performance at Sydney recently the audience _stood and cheered the performers. Long Tack Bam is a magician of the highest order; he mystifies his -.udience with acts of a most baffling kind. His daughters dance delightfully, and a Chinese comedian provides something novel in the way of English dude exaggerations. The whole troupe arc said to be at their best on the horizontal bar. Here they fly in the air, turn round at great speed, and perform many hair-raising feats. The perform anee is said to be one of the m-st exhilirating vaudeville acts ever seen in the Dominion. A special feature is the magnificent Oriental stage setting, com prising rare Chinese embroideries and hangings of the richest colouring, which blend and harmonise with the enchanting and mystifying atmosphere of the entertainment. There was hardly a vacant seat iu His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, says the Dunedin Star, when Long Tack Sam and his accomplished company of ten Chinese men and women gave another remarkable exhibition of their prowess as entertainers. The men are of splendid physique, and they were responsible for a remarkably thrilling performance on the horizontal bar, whilst tl oir tumbling and strap work lield the audience spellbrund. They introduced many novel “stunts” of seemingly exceptional difficulty, but everything was carried out with a facility th-* added more to the astonishment of those present. Long Tack Sam himself participates in everything, but he was seen to special advantage in a number of amazing conjuring tricks. As a r’.imie he would have been well worth his place on the programme, his quaint but telling burlesque of an English dandv being exceptionally good Besides the above there are several high class vaudeville turns direct from England and America, the whole making the greatest collection of stars that have ever appeared "s the same bill The plans are at Jones and Son’s, wlierp seats may be reserved. On San urday next a special majinee will be held at 2.30 p.m.
