A lengthy discussion took place as to the part the i Swankers’ Club would take in connection with the radium appeal, during which the proposal to provide a Radium Institute for the Wanganui Hospital was favourably and sympathetically supported. The committee would have liked to throw itself whO’o-nearteUiy into the scheme, but an interpretation of the rules of the club showed that such an action would render the executive liable for any expenses incurred, it being against the rules of the club to embark on any undertaking not having for its objective, the relief of distress. It was therefore resolved that as the rules of the club forbid th e committee from committing the club to assist such functions, the request for assistance be regretfully declined, but that the citizens committee be advised of the position and of the Swankers executive’s sympathy with the scheme. LEASING RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CLUB It was resolved that the question of leasing the Returned Soldiers’ Club be not agreed to for the present, but that on all occasions when the requirements of the Swankers necessitate the hiring of a hall, the R.S-A.
