GENERAL NEWS. (From Our Own Correspondent). At the quarterly meeting of Court Little John, A.0.F., the following officers were elected: C.R., Bro. R. Upchurch; S.C.R., Bro. Geo. Lewis; S.W., Bro. J. Black; J.W., Bro. F. Duncan; 5.8., Bro. E. Blair; J. 8., Bro. Laurence Whale; secretary, Bro. L. Mclndoe; treasurer, Bro. A. Mclndoe. Eight new members were initiated and three nominated. The infants and Standard VI, pupils of the Marton District High School ga\ c a concert in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening, when the pupils san" a song of welcome, and also Christmas carols. The following items elicited rounds of applause from the large audience:—Frank Graham and Leonard Mcßeth (baker) in 11 Simple Simon”; Doris Goldsbury (mother), Margaret Lound, Bobbie Parkes and Tpm Barton (kittens), and Rev. Williamson (rat) in “Three Kittens.” Joffru Williamson, in. character, sang “Dame Duck”; Bobbie Parkes sang “Only Seven,” Dorothy Sicely and Joan Sutcliffe contributed a pianoforte duet, and Joan Sutcliffe and Marion Goldsbury a vocal duet. The following boys, characteristcally dressed, performed in a well-staged sketch: Pirate Chief, N. Ward; Don Whiskerando, J. Henderson; Pedro Chembargo, A. Todd; Mentoze, J. Kerr; Lying Liar Lynn, R. Burgess; Sambo Jambo, R. Anderson; Peter Pumpkin, M. Ingle; messenger, M. Hume; pirates, J. Wilkie, G. Powell, L. McLean, and E. Blair. At the conclusion of the performance Mr Low, chairman, thanked all w’ho had assisted. The Rangitikei County Council offices will be closed for the Christmas and New Year holidays from 25th December to 9th January inclusive. The Rangitikei Scots Society’s new hall at Hunterville was officially opened by Sir Thomas Mackenzie on Wednesday evening. Chief A. G. Simpson presided. An excellent concert was held after Sir Thomas Mackenzie had delivered a stirring address. The hall covers 97ft by 36ft, with a dancing floor 60ft by 35ft; supper room 35ft x 16ft; kitchen 14 ft x 7ft 6in; two dressing rooms 12ft x 14ft; and entrance 6ft x 12ft. RANGITOTO RABBIT BOARD. On Friday a poll was taken on a proposal to alter the rating system from the capital value to an acreage basis, which was carried, the voting being: For the proposal—Bulls 44, Parewanui 51, Turakina 0. Total, 95. Against the proposal—Bulls 31, 4, Turakina 12. Total 46. Informal—2.
