DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

SOME NEW RECORDS SUCCESSFUL SALE ALL ROUND. (Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, Dec. 21. The first wool sale of the 1923-24 season was concluded to-day. The total offering forward for this sale was 17,450 bales, as compared with 10,053 bales for the first sale of last season. The bench of buyers was the most representative ever seen at a colonial [auction sale. There were buyers directly representing the British Isles, Canada, U.S.A., Japan, Franco, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Switzerland, besides probably other European countries and states. Taken all round, the quality of the clips as represented by the offering, is above a normal season, although perhaps not quite equal to certain special years which could be named. The bulk of the New Zealand clip has been shorn quite three weeks earlier than is usual, which naturally means less yolk, and consequently drier and higher yielding wools.

To-day's sale created some new records, and these are recorded as under: Merino, 313 d, Corriedale, 291 d; halfbred, 283 d; halfbred pieces, 27Ad; halfbred bellies, 25d.
