THE PETER DEAN CASE
WANGANUI TROTTING CLUB’S ACTION ENDORSED. (Special to “Chronicle.”) CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. At last night’s meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association, it was decided to endorse the action of the Wanganui Trotting Club in disqualifying Petei Dean tor inconsistent running, but the board expressed the opinion that the punishment had hardly been ade quate if the offence had been proved. At |ast night’s meeting of the board is was announced that the Wanganui Club, in reply, pointed out that the reason the Judical Committee did not inflict further punishment was that both owner and driver of the horse were more or less new to trotting. They both felt their positions keenly, and the committee felt that they did not realise until afterwards the gravity of their offence. Had they been more seasoned to the game, the full penalty pro vided for by the rules would have been inflicted. Under the circumstances, the committee thought those concerned had learned their lesson, and were not likely to repeat the offence. The letter was received.
