BOWLING.

THE DOMINION TOURNEY. DETAILS OF CHAMPION GAMES. FINAL IN THE RINKS CONTEST. The final in the rinks contest, be- ' tween A. K. Smart (New Plymouth) and Parsons (Ponsonby) was , watched with interest by a large ; number c«f spectators. The first i head went to Smart for two, while I bis men led very well in the second. I Hosking missed a drive and Smart ; placed both his bowls nicely, giving ■ him the second head for two. Pari sons retaliated on the third, and ■ pubed up three by good drawing 'shots. With the kitty near the ditch in the following head. Parsons got the shot with his last bowl, while Smart's second shot turned one of Parson's bowls, this giving Ponsonby two for the head, and a lead of one on the total score.

With five heads gone, the score was five points each. At the next head Smart had one bowl resting on each side of the kitty, both being beautifully judged. With his drive Parsons took one of Smart’s bowls, but the position was not altered. Smart taking two. The next head however, was a triumph for the Ponsonby rink. With Parson’s second bowl to go. Smart was threo down, and the last, bowl gave Ponsonby another scoring shot, and a good score of four for thb head. This put Parsons ahead, the board showing Parsons 9, Smart 7. New Plymouth led well in the eighth head, but a goo-d .driW changed the position of kitty. Smart failed to get the new length, and his bowls were short. With two on the head. Parsons was leading by four. Fine play by the whole Ponsonby rink on the next head was rewarded by another tally of four. •rd Parsons was now leading by eight.

A feature of the next few heads was the splendid uphill fight made by the. New Plymouth rink, and gradually the scores became more even, until at the fourteenth head Parson’s lead was reduced to one. the score being 16 —15. Parsons increased his total by three points on the next, made through nice draws. The following head v.-as lying in Parsons’ favour ihrough good bowls by Somerville and Hosking. Griffin failed with h’s drive, and although Smart delivered ’wo nice bowls, the liea-d went to Parsons, and the Ponsonby ri"k led by four at the nineteenth Griffin had hard luck with his first bowl, while his second just grazed the kitty. Casey followed with a good length bowl, and Parsons improved the position with a good draw. Smart drove with both bowls, and the head went to Parsons for one. the score being 22- 17 at the 20th head.
