BULLS NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent). An interesting footall match was played on the Polo Ground on Wednesday last, when the. "Marrieds” met the “Singles.” The “Marrieds” turned out in full force, the total strength of their team numbering somewhere in the vicinity of twenty. The first half was fairly even, and all hough the “Marrieds” had a great advantage in their numerical strength they suffered somewhat from shortness of breath. The “Singles” live-eighths line were a source of annoyance throughout to the ‘ Marrieds” and the first spell ended five to nil in favour of the “Singles.” When the second spell opened it was plain to see that the “Marrieds” meant business, and not many minutes had passed before a great forward rush led by W. Kearny ended in a lightning dash of some 30 yards by E. V. Wilson, who scored a magnificent try near the posts. This was the most tense moment of the game, both to the spectators ami players, and when the try was con- . verted by W. Clover the resounding cheers must have been heard many miles. The “Singles” were now determined to score again, and another try and a converted goal were eventually registered. This was not the last of the game, however, for near the call of time W. Kearney became most aggressive, and securing the ball kicked by his full-back, some 4 0 yards behind, he forced under the posts. The kick failed several | times. Thus the game ended “Singles” 10, “Marrieds” 8. The annual meeting of the congregation of the Presbyterian Church was held in the Clifton Hall on Tuesday, August 8 th. There was a large attendance of members and friends, including some from Carnarvon and Parewanui. The Rev. D. Mclvor, of Marton, presided. The meeting was opened with praise and prayer. Mr Ireland, in introducing Mr Mclvor to the meeting, said that although Mr Mclvor was a stranger to Bulls he was not a stranger to him, for when he first came to New Zealand eleven years ago, Mr McIvor’s manse at Waverley was the ’ first home he had stayed at. Mr Mclvor, in thanking the people for their hearty welcome, said he was , very pleased to come down to meet with them, more especially as he was an old friend of Mr Ireland’s, and knew the good work he had done in Patea. He expressed his pleasure in seeing so many present, especially so many young men and women, as it was a hopeful sign for the work of the church. The session report gave thanksgiving and praise to God for His blessings during the past year. During the year six new members joined by profession of faith, and six by certificate, leaving the roll number at 66. Reference was made to the loss of Mr J. McMinn (secretary), and Mr J. 11. Gray (treasurer and choir master), also to Mr J. Stevenson, the senior elder. The manager’s report was read by Mr B. McSkimming. The balance-sheet by Mr J. Campion, showed a credit balance of £39. Reports of the Bible Class and Sunday School were read and all proved most satisfactory. During the evening musical items were rendered by several of the gathering. Supper was handed round at the close, thus terminating a most enthusiastic meeting.
