WANGANUI POULTRY SHOW.

THE OPENING DAY. LIST, OF AWARDS. i The Wanganui Poultry Show open- ' ing yesterday at. the Drill Hall, and 'Will be continued until 10 o'clock | this evening. | The fixture is proving a very popular one with the public, and (deservedly so. as both in entries and quality of exhibits it is a local record. The arrangements for the Show leave nothing to be desired and last (night the officials had au excepHon- ! ally busy time in erecting pens and getting the birds properly classified I so that the judges could enter upon i their task early yesterday morning. ’ln a good many of the classes, pariticularly in the utility pens, 'this jwas no light contract. The White (Leghorns and the Black Orpingtons | appear to be the favoured breed, or i probably, judging by the entries, it j would be safe to say the most proliiCe breeders. For instance, in the Orpington pen the judge had to select the best birds from 21 entries with 18 entries also in the cockerel class. In fact, in all classes of the Orpington, Leghorns and Minorcas, there was exceedingly strong competition. The Rhode Island Red section had also Teen considerably strengthened compared with last year. The entries in Buff Orpingtons, Silver Wyandottes, Plymouth Rocks, and Aneonas were somewhat limit, ed, In the fancy section the entries were thickest in the Orpington section, wnere the cup Is to be competes for. The fancy Rhode Island section also induced keen competition. The judges are Mr C. A. House, of England, one of the world’s leading poultry judges and Mr Bryant, of Palmerston North.
