PARAMOUNT PICTURES. TO-NIGHT. SATURDAY AND MONDAY, The management of the Paramount Pictures have secured a first-class programme for to-night, Saturday, anti Monday, including some very fine pictures of the New Zealand Brass Band Contest, Swimming Championships, and the New Zealand Athletes against the South Africans. The picture shows the two local bands in the Quickstep and Contest Marches, and general views of the contest. The Swimming Champion--ships also incl ide views of the local swimmers. The picture is exclusive to the Opera House. The star picture is a Paramount Special Production featuring Betty Compson. The entire production is rich in Oriental atmosphere. The story opens in a Chinese cafe and gambling establishment in Shanghai, China, where Cherry the motherless daughter of an English proprietor reigns as queen. The story carries the spectator from Shanghai to a lonely lighthouse in the Southern Seas, where some of the most dramatic episodes ever seen on the screen are portrayed. With sJch a first-class programme to present to the Paramounts’ numerous patrons, a large audience is anticipated and patrons would be well advised to book early as the box plan is rapidly filling. The Ih>x plan is now open until 9 o'clock this evening at H. I. Jones and Son’s for this great attraction. BENEFIT CONCERT. Thanks to the courtesy and generosity of Mr W. Jameson the Durie Hil School will benefit substantially by the successful matinee which was held in the Grand Theatre yesterday afternoon. Hearing that the school was in need of funds for ground and other improvements, Mr Jameson kindly arranged the matinee with the object of giving the fund a start. The result was highly satisfactory, a crowded audience attending to enjoy the pleasing programme billed for the occasion. The Committee desire us to express their warm appreciation *of Mr Jameson’s kindly assistance. Following this successful inauguration of tne fund the first of the Committee’s “Put and Take” competitions will be launched on Monday. Then the fun will commence, for the competition is one to get the entire population thinking. THE WANGANUI ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS’ SOCIETY. The first annual meeting of the Wan. ganui Accountant Students’ Society was held in Messrs Silk, Haworth and Co.’s board room on Thursday evening, the 30th inst when Mr F. Bourne presided over a large attendance of members. In the course of his address, the president outlined the work of the past year, and took the opportunity of congratulating those members who were successful at the November examinations.

An attractive syllabus has been drawn up for the coming session and, covering as it does, all branches of the accountancy profession, will be invaluable to all those engaged in commercial pursuits. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mr F. Bourne; vice-presidents, Messrs E. M. Silk and T. Ballingall; committee. Messrs W. M. Falconer. R. M. Finlayson, F. J. Hill, J. McDavitt, F. W. Bevan and W. H. Cannan; hon. treasurer, R. M. Crockett; hon. auditor, L. C. Swan; hon. secretary, E. Osboldstone.
