SWIMMING.
GONVILLE SWIMMING CLUB. The above club held a 25 yards race for a trophy, last evening. Good entries were received, and some good swimming was provided for quite a number of interesting spectators. Officials: Starter, L. McKay; judges, Messrs. Dudley, Tyler, and Powell. First heat.— J. Wild 1, S. Robson 2, N. Dowsett 3. Time 16 seconds. Second heat.—N. Morris and S. Norris (dead-heat) I, C. Dudley 3. Time 15 seconds. Third heat.—C. Rosser 1, S. Lowe it, -Bridges 3. Time 15 seconds. Final.—J. Wild (3 J seconds) 1, C. Rosser (3 J seconds) 2, S. Lowe (4% seconds) 3. Also started: Robson, Morris, Norris and Dudley. Time 15 seconds. The final proved a very fine race, there being only a yard separating the whole seven competitors at the finish. Wild managing to get his touch in first from Rosser, who beat Lowe by a touch. MX- T. Anderson has the handicaping down to a fine art, bringing in the half second method, which has been in operation in Auckland for a considerable time, and all the competitors are satisfied it is easily the best for a 25 yards race. A fifty yards race will be swum next Wednesday evening a.t 5.30 p.m. for another trophy donated by the club.
