A London cable announces the death of Dr. Walter Perry, formerly of Timaru.

Cabled advice has been received that Air Gordon V. Martin, son of Mr and Mrs J. C. Martin, of Gonville, has passed the final section of the B.A. examination.

Mr Harold Beauchamp is leaving for England next month, and will not seek re-electon as chairman of the Bank of New Zealand, a position he has held since 1907, which is a longer term than any other chairman. He will remain a director for another two years. Mr Gordon V. Hammond (late of Lismore Station) has joined the staff of the New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Distributing Company, Ltd., Wanganui, as stock agent. Mr Hammond, who is well and popularly (known in the district, commences his hew duties on April Ist, and his many friends will wish him every success.

Mr A. J. Burtt, ot Hawera, who was formerly resident of this town, has accepted a position with the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Company, Limited, as produce and motor canvasser, and takes up his duties next week.

The Rev. Howard Elliott, who was taken ill a fortnight ago in Auckland, and has since been confined to his bed at his residence in Wellington, will have to undergo a minor operation; and does not expect to be about again for a week or two*.

Tile Hon. George Fowlds. who is pay. ing a short visit to Otago, was asked if he had any intention ot contesting a seat at the coming election. Mr Fowlds gave an emphatic negative, adding that he would not again enter the political arena under the existing electoral system.
