Sir Francis Bell, Attorney-Gener-al, leaves New Zeal.-ad by the Albenic to-morrow on a visit to the Old Country. At the Cabinet meeting on Friday the opportunity was taken to present Sir Francis with a Petone travelling rug, conveying therewith the best wishes of the Prime Minister and his colleagues for a pleasant journey for Sir Francis in the trip that he is about to make. The appointment is announced of Mr. John Baird. Thompson as Undersecretary for Lands, in succession to Mr. T. N. Brodrick, 0.8. E., 1.5.0., who is retiring on superannuation. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College decided to offer the •position of Professor of Chemistry, rendered vacant by the resignation, of Dr. W. P. Evans, to Dr. H. G. Denham M.A.D., Sc., of Capetown University. Dr. Denham is a son of Mr. Edward Denham, of Sumner, and was educated at the Christchurch Boys’ High School. He is a graduate of Canterbury College, where he obtained his M.A. Degree in 1905, and his M.S.C. in 1906. Prior to accepting an appointment at Capetown University, he occupied the chair of Chemistry at Brisbane University.
