SCHOOL ATHLETICS
COMPETITION FOR BANNER.
ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS BARRED. “Should Roman Catholic schools be allowed to compete?” This was a decision asked for by the Wanganui Amateur Athletic Association in connection with the approaching primary schools’ championship sports meeting, where the principal prize will be a banner presented by the Wanganui Education Board. Mr Fraser said that he understood that the Roman Catholics had an education board, and it was up to them to provide a banner. Mr Fraser moved that competition for the banner should be confined to the public schools, and the motion was carried unanimously. The Chief Inspector said that one of the headmasters had urged that the banner should go to the school with the largest number of boys or girls who registered performances up to a certain standard. The Board approved of the suggestion, but decided to take no action, as the system of competitive points has already been arranged.
