THE VALMARIE STRANDING.
(Per Press Aseoelatlon.l WELLINGTON, March 23. Evidence at the Valmarie inquiry to-day was to the effect that the tide was having a peculiar effect on the beach at Farewell Spit. For some considerable distance it was constantly shifting, giving first deep then shallow water. It was described as a trap for mariners.
