WOLVES ATTACK VILLAGE

A HORRIBLE STORY. LONDON, March 22. A message from Bucharest says that, mad with hunger after pitiless snow storms, a pack of wolves entered the village of Pretrosin at nightfall and carried off five small children, whom they tore ravenously to pieces before their parents’ eyes. Responding to a frantic alarm raised by the horror-stricken mothers, the entire village turned out armed with sticks and chased the invaders. They found the pack reinforced by a large number of more famished wolves. The animals turned on the villagers who, being without firearms, were compelled to fight for their lives. A fierce struggle lasted for an hour. Only one wolf was killed, but six villagers were so badly torn by the packs’ fangs that they died. Thirty-eight others were badly bitten.
