Mr. Cullen, of Auckland, has been appointed stationmaster at Eltham.
The many friends of Mr E. D. Hammond, late of the Rangitikei and Wanganui districts, will regret to hear of his death at New Plymouth on Thursday. The deceased was well-known in the above districts, where he was proprietor of several hotels, and was part owner of the racehorse Marton. Miss M. Davies has been appointed matron of the Palmerston North Hospital in succession to Miss McLagan, retired. The appointee received her early training in Palmerston. Thence she went to Otira Gorge and Akaroa. She had lengthy war service, being two years at a casualty clearing station in France. On her return to New Zealand she nursed at Trentham Military Hospital. but lately had been in private practice.
Mr Frank Hutchins, the now celebrated pianist, who is touring the world, paid a flying visit to Wanganui yesterday. Mr Huchins, who is accompanied by his wife and family, left again in the afternoon en route to Hawera, where he is to give a recital. At a later date Mr Hutchins will be playing in Wanganui
