ADDINGTON MARKET. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 22. At the Addington market, store sheep again provided an overflow yarding, the entry being the biggest of the year. Fat cattle were again in over supply, the entry being a record for this season. Fat Jambs were forward in average numbers, and fat sheep exceeded tlie normal entry. Except for beef there was a good sale. Store Sheep—A big yarding included a draft of outside sheep from Marlborough, Chathams and elsewhere. A spirited sale ensued for aJI classes, particularly lambs and ewes, a good clearance being effected. Forward rape lambs 15s 3d to 17s 7d, good ]F>to 14s 9d, medium 10s 3d to 12s Od, small 8s to 10s, cull 5s to 7s 9d, good 4 and 6-tooth ewes 18s 9d to 21s, ordinary 16s 6d to 18s 6d, low conditioned inferior Ils Gd. to 14s good half bred 8-tooth ewes 19s to 2Us lOd, good half bred 2-tooth ewes 22s 6d to 255, fair crossbred 18s to 19s 6d, inferior 12s to 14s 6d,fairly good 4-5-year ewes 13s (5d to 17s 6d, rape ewes 7s to 9s 6d, cull 3s 6d to 6s 6d. forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers 18s, 4 and 6-tooth wethers 14s to 15s 4d, inferior low conditioned 12s to 13s, forward 2-tooth wethers, 16s, ordinary 11 s to 13s. Fat Lambs. —4250 were penned, the bulk being well finished. A sharp rise Was recorded on last week af about 2s per head and over. All values were from to Ifd per lb extra. Prime Jambs 25s to 30s 3d, prime 21s 9d to 24s 6d, medium 18s 9d to 21s, light inferior 16s to 18s 6d.

Fat Sheep.—The market was little changed from last week, heavy ewes being a shade better. Freezers bought freely up to a limit. Extra prime wethers 24s to 21s 3d, prime 20s to 235, medium 18s to 19s 9d, prime 16s 6d to 19s 3d, medium 13s 6d to 16s 3d, inferior Ils to 13s 3d.

Fat Cattle —An over supply, the yarding numbering 445 head, including some good Ration drafts. Values slipped back by 20s to 30s per head. Extra prime steers £l6, prime £9 10s to £l4, medium £7 5s to £9 ss, light steers £5 2s 5d to £7, extra prime heifers to £9 12s 6d, prime £5 5s to £B, ordinary £3 5s to £5 2s 6d. prime cows £5 to £f ss, ordinary £2 15s to £4 15s.

Vealers.—Everything sold well at advance on late rates. Runners £6, good vealers £3 15s to £4 10s, medium £2 to £2 10s, small calves 5s upwards. Store Cattle —A poor demand, with frequent passings. Two-year-old steers £3 to £3 10s, yearling £1 10s to £2, 18-month&-old heifers £2 10s, yearling £1 16s to £2, medium cows £2 IsDairy Cattle. —Good 2nd and 3rd calvers close to calving £9 to £l5, ordinary £5 10s to £8 10s, good first calvers, close to calving, £7 to £lO 10s; backward springers £3 10s to £6 10s, aged cows 15s to £2 10s. Fat Pigs.—Porkers, being in over’ supply, were easier. Choppers £2 15s to £-5, light baconers £3 5s to £4, heavy £4 5s to £4 15s, extra heavy £5 6s (average price per lb 63d to 7d) light porkers, 40s to 455, heavy 50s to 55s price per lb 7£d to 8d). Stor<s Pigs.—Sluggish sale. Sows in pig £2 2s to £2 7s 6d, good stores 35s to 435. medium 27s 6d to 31s, inferior 15s to 22s 6d.

BURNSIDE MARKET, (Ber Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 22. There were good supplies of sheep and lambs offered at Burnside sales to-day. There was good competition and practically all disposals were at slightly enhanced values. Fat cattle were in over supply and competition was not very brisk. It was expected that in consequence of the large supply lower prices would rule before the close of the sale. Fat Cattle.—A large yarding, numbering 265 head of fair quality. At the commencement of the sale prices were on a par with late rates, but towards the end of the sale prices advanced about 10/ per head. Prime ox beef was worth up to 24/ )ier 1001 b. and cow beef down to 16/. Prime bullocks realised from £lO to £ll 17/6; medium £8 to £9 10/; lighter kinds from £6 10/ upwards. Prime Heifers realised from £7 5/ to £8 5/; medium £6 to £7; light and aged from £4 10/ .upwards. i Sheep.—A good yarding, numbering 2,790 head. There was decided improvement in quality, as compared with last week’s offering. There was good demand for all classes and values advanced from 1/ to 2/ per head above last week’s rates. Prime wether mutton was worth round about 4d per lb. and ewe in the vicinity of 3%d. Extra prime heavy weight wethers realised from 28/ to 30/6; prime 24/ to 27/, medium 19/ to 23/ and lighter kinds from 16/6 upwards. Prime ewes realised from 18/ to 20/3, medium 15/ to 17/ and light and aged from 11/ upwards. Lambs.— A large yarding, numbering 1,323 head of good quality. 'The offering met with good demand at improved rates, to the extent of about 1/ per head, prime lambs being worth about 7d. Prices ranged from 15/ to 25/9 a head. Store Cattle. —A full yarding was offered. The quality generally was an improvement on that of last week’s yarding. There was slightly better demand and improved prices for half fat cows, but the market for backward steers was very slack. A line of good forward steers showing breeding attracted attention and these realised up to £5 15/ per head. Pigs.— a small yarding was offered which was disposed of under keen competition. Prices were a shade firmer than those which ruled at last week’s sales. Best baconers realised from 6%d to 7%d per lb., and porkers from 7id to 8d per lb.

STOCK MARKETS. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Palmerston North, report having a very fair entry of sheep and a small yarding of cattle at their Marton Sale on Monday the 20th inst. Quotations; — Small lambs 6/1; medium lambs 9/7; cull ewes 4/-; mixed age ewes 8/4 to 12/-. 15month steers 27/6, 20-month steers 39/; C-year steers £3 to £3/10/; 2year empty heifers £3/16/ to £4. NEWTON KING LTD. REPORTS. At Ohura on 9th March a good entry of sheep and moderate one of cattle came forward. An improved demand set up for the former and practically the whole offering sold at the hammer. Little business was transacted in the cattle section. Lambs 7/3; well-grown 2-th wethers 11/4, 13/2; ordinary do. 9/1, 10/6; mixed age wethers 11/6, 12/1, 14/-; fresh full mouth ewes 8/-, 8/9, 9/8, 11/1; aged do. 4/6, 6/7; Hereford empty heifers £2/10/; 2J-year old steers 45/-, £2/8/. At Kaponga on 10th inst. we submitted a full yarding to good enquiry, a full clearance resulting Beef and boner values were quite up to and in several instances in excess of freezing rates. Young cattle also sold well. Lambs 7/-, 7/2; weaner heifers 28/-, £2/4/; inferior do. 10/-; 4-yqar old bullocks £5/5/; 18month steers 22/6; store cows 16/, 25/, 30/; fat do. £3, £3/5/, £4/3/; Bulls £l/17/6; £2/12/6, £3. At Stoney River on 15th inst. a fair offering was cleared at present ruling rates. Store pigs 16/, 20/; lambs 6/, 7/; mixed 2-tooths 15/; weaner heifers 14/-; in calf heifers £4/2/6, £4/6/; 18-month steers 20/-, 27/; fat cows £3/13/6, £4/10; light do. £2/10/, £2/17/6; store do. 13/6, 32/6. At Waiwakaiho on 16th March the advertised entry of weaners came forward in addition to a full yarding of other stock. Jersey and Jersey cross heifers • made up the bulk of the weaner offering, of which there was a big portion sold. Dairy heifers and cows close to and at profit were also eagerly competed for. Other classes remained at date levels.
