“POPPY DAY."

N.Z.R.S.A.’s SCHEME. RELIEF FOR UNEMPLOYED. Details are to hand regarding the sale of some 263,250 small, and 14,456 large, red. artificial poppies, on April 24th next. The scheme is being conducted by the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, and the funds derived will be devoted, part to assist the widows and children of Northern France, and part to give relief to unemployed returned soldiers. The total sum involved is £14,608, and should all the flowers be sold an amount totalling £3892 will be returned to France. The R.S.A. has allocated poppies to each district throughout the Dominion. The Wellington District with headquarters at Palmerston North, will received 81,150 flowers for distribution to the various towns under its charge. The Wellington District for the purposes of organisation, has been sub-divided into four areas: (1) Taranaki, 13500; (2) Hawke’s Bay, 14200; (3) North Wellington, 18,450; (4) South Wellington, 35,310. ’Wanganui will come within the Northern Wellington sub-area, and it is proposed to form immediately a controlling committee representative of all local organisations. The Railway and Postal Departments have very kindly offered to convey poppies free of charge. It is hoped that in Wanganui, all who can will render assistance. The local R.S.A. are in possession of all information and will be pleased to interview any who are interested.
