NURSES FIRED ON.

CAPETOYN, March 14. On Saturday afternoon three Red Cross motor-cars, carrying Red Cross flags, were despatched to Auckland Park to bring back nurses for service. They were subjected to heavy fire from the rebels, and were obliged to pull up. The nurses lay down. Attempting rescuers under the white flag were fired on. It was almost three hours before the cars succeeded in escaping, riddled with bullets. The oflicials of the industrial federation maintain that they had no knowledge of the commando’s intention to attack the police. The Chamber of Mines adheres to its previous position. While it is prepared to discuss questions with the trades unions, it will refuse to recognise the federation.
