NIEU ISLAND MURDER.

CONVICTION AND SENTENCES. WELLINGTON, August 3. A wireless message received by the Department of Justice from Samoa relating to the trial in connection with a recent murder at Niue Island states that the native charged with murder has been convicted and sentenced to death, and that another convicted of conspiracy to murder was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment. Both prisoners remain at Niue, but there is a possibility of their being brought to New Zealand. The position has to be discussed by the New Zealand Executive Council, which will, in the usual course, advise the Governor-General whether the death penalty should be carried out or committed to imprisonment for life. The matter cannot be con. sidered until the arrival of documents by the mail.
