ARTERIAL ROAD CONTROL

AN IMPORTANT CONFERENCE.

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. An important conference of local bodies of the South Island and the South Island Motor Union held today to discuss the proposed legislation placing the main arterial roads of the Dominion under Government control. It was decided to uphold the suggestion that two road boards should be constituted, one in each Island, and that money raised in each Island by tyre tax, 4tc„ after being subsidised by the Government, should be expended in the Island in which it Was raised. It was resolved that the conference is of opinion that the actual carrying out and control and workmen roads should be under the control of local bodies under the supervision of the Board.
