AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.
HIS MAJESTY’S. MADAME ANNETTE HAYWARD. Once again a vast audience congregated at His Majesty's last evening to hear a vocalist of the highest ability, and to witness a programme of feature films par excellence. Madame Annette Hayward, the Dominion’s favourite soprano, is full worthy of that title, as was made manifest by a captivated audience last evening. Not only is Madame gifted with a voice far above the average concert artist, but she possesses a personality that becomes apparent the minute she makes her appearance—her audience is enthralled and spellbound and as the last silvery note dies away there is a brief silence—then a thunder of prolonged applause. To those who have not heard Madame Annette Hayward, mere type’ cannot sufficiently express what a genuine musical treat the enterprising management of His Majesty’s has provided. The picture section of the programme consists of three big attractions, headed by Maurice Tourneur’s Paramount success “My Lady’s Garter,” one of the most exciting and interesting pictures seen for some considerable time, and one that does not expose the piot or let the interest flag till the last moment. In a glorious story of English life, Olive Thomas offers one of the ablest characerisations of her career, in a story which deals with the love affairs of a duke and the charming daughter of a country squire, in which the course of true love did not run smoothly. For pure unadulterated humour, clean and clever, Mr and Mrs Carter de Haven in “Why Divorce,” are a host of excellence, and hearty laughter punctuated the matrimonial humorosities depicted The same programme will be offered to-night, when the election results will be screened, thus enabling patrons to hear in comfort, the results of the day’s voting. Doubtless the excellence of the bill offered, and the projection of the election results, will mean another crowded house, therefore-we strongly advise our readers to either book at the theatre or ’phone 863.
