ROLL OF HONOUR

•UNVEILED AT RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CLUB. A roll of honour and memorial to Wanganui’s fallen soldiers was unveiled at the local Returned Soldiers’ Club yesterday, at the conclusion of the Anzac Da.f service at Cook’s Gardens. The roll of honour is inscribed upon a beautiful tablet, and the complete memorial has been presented to the R.S.A. by the Swankers’ Club of Wanganui. The monument is a tribute to the generosity of the institution and to the memory of the mldiers whose deeds it com--meinorates. THE UNVEILING. A large parade of returned soldiers was present at t’he unveiling, and relatives of those whose names are on the board were in attendance! Many public men, including representatives of various churches, were present at the invitation of the R.S.A. The ceremony was begun by an impressive prayer by the Rev. W. Grigg, of the Methodist Church, a returned chaplain. Mr G. W. Harden, for the Swankers’ Club, said he was directed by the Club to present the memorial to the R.S.A. A condition was that if the R.S.A. Club went out of existence the roll of honour should be at the disposal of the Mayor and councillors. Mr W. A. Veitch. . M.P., unveiled the Board, and in doing so, delivered a very appropriate speech. Mr F. K. Turn bull, president of the Wanganui R.S.A., responded for the Association. The Club, he said, was extremely grateful for the handsome gift, and appreciated the appropriate memorial. He promised them that the conditions would faithfully be carried

out, and again thanked the Swankers’ Club for their generosity. The beautiful sacred song “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth” was admirably rendered by Madame Emily Briggs. A prayer by Rev. W. Grigg concluded the proceedings.
