N.Z. ASSOCIATION OF NURSERYMEN.

We have received from the Dominion secietary, Mr Geo. A. Green, P.O. Box 1118, Auckland, an advance copy of the agenda paper for the fourteenth annual meeting and conference of tjie N.Z. Association ot Nurserymen. This will open in the Dominion Farmers’ Institute. Wellington, on January 12th. A civic reception will be tendered by his Worship the Mayor of Wellington, Mr J. P. Luke, M.P., at 9.30 a.rn. Conference will be officially opened by the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, at 10.15 a.m. The president, Mr Robert Nairn, of Christchurch, will preside. The report of the Executive Committee promises to be of more than usual interest there having been a number of special features that have called for attention during the year.

Some fourteen sub-committees will present reports, amongst the most important of these being those of the diseases, bud selection, organising and emergency committees, which will deal with such great national questions as the setting up of a National Bud-selec-tion Association ; the necessity of protection from fresh introductions of diseases from overseas, special mention being made of the fire blight problem; the forward movement in connection with the appointment of the national organiser; the urgent need for a Dominion College of Horticulture to care for the effective training of our youths for the higher branches of the profession ; and other matters of general interest.

No less* than fifty-six remits from District Councils appear on the Order Paper. These added to those from the bring the number up to about seventy. Many of these refer to matters which are of public interest, such as those relating to forestry, importation of trees and plants, tree grading regulations, registration of nurseries, registration of forest areas, budselection, reducing the number of varieties *of roses, etc., and protection of raisers of new vareties of trees and plants. ’* During the conference lectures and papers on practical subjects will be contributed by Mr T. W. Kirk, Captain Ellis, and Messrs T. D. Lennie, V. C. Davis, and W. T. Benefield. The conference will extend over January 12th, 13th, and 14th. Delegates will attend from all over the Dominion.
