CORRESPONDENCE.
THE SOLDIERS’ LOAN. BOROUGH APPEAL TO CITIZEN’S AND RESIDENTS OF THE DISTRICT. (To the Editor.) Sir, —On behalf of the Wanganui Borough we desire to bring under the notice of the citizens of our Bor ough and the residents of outcountry districts the urgency of an appeal by the Government for subscriptions to the £6,000,000 loan. Th.i prospectus is now issued and is in the hands of the people for immediate subscription. The money is required to complete the repatriation of those brave men of our Ex peditionary Forces who served u so loyally in our hour of need. Out country made a compact, that every endeavour would be made to placi every man so far as it was possible in his pre-war status in civilian lite, and generally to repatriate every map as, far as it was practical and possible to do so. It has been recognised, and expressed by all. that the Hon. Guthrie and his departments have endeavoured to faithfully perforin their duties- £6,000,006 ia still required to complete the task. The Government does not ask for gifts, but asks you to loan youi money, secured to you by Um backing of the State together with 5J per cent, interest. All advance* made to soldiers are returnable in full to the Treasury. Government pro raises to our returned men must, and will be kept and it is the duty of every citizen to respond to this appeal. What would have been the penalty if the German had succeeded? To-day “Old England” and her “Great Colonial Possessions” remain inviolate, and the Union Jack still floats above us. Who have we to thank, but those men who did al! that death and danger dare. Are our Government asking too much? Surely it is the least to ask you Does the prospectus ask any sacrifice on your part? Surely Wanganu will not be found wanting in this Great Appeal? All information car be obtained at the G.P.0., all banks the Town Clerk, and the undersigned.
