DISTINGUISHED OFFICER MURDERED.
REGRETTABLE AFFAHIIN PERSIA. Received August 1, 5.5 p.m. DELHI, July 30. Captain Gerard, of the Fifteenth Lancers, one of the most experienced political officers in Mesopotamia, was murdered by tribesmen near Tabriz, Persia, while en route to England on leave of absence. He distinguished himself by repeatedly solving thorny problems in Persia and Mesopotamia.
