Mr H. .1. Lancaster’s sale on Tuesday contrary to expectation was very poorly attended, many local buyers absenting themselves, no doubt owing to the freely expressed opinion that prices would rule too high. Tho herd of 100 verv high grade Jersey cows was quite the best lot we have ever offered for sale, and did very great credit to Mr Lancaster’s selection and breeding, and were greatly admired by those present. We were disappointed with the result, and compared with recent sales of Jersey herds held in the districts; many of the cows were sold much in buyers’ favour. A beautiful type of milker in one ned “Dick” fell after keen competition to the bid of Mr U. Jonns, of Woodville. at £i>4, which is perhaps a -record for a grade Jersey cow, at all events in this district. The. 25 top-priced cows made from £36 to £54, with an average of £42 6/. The 50 top-priced cows averaged j£3B 9 . and the whole herd of 400 cows averaged £29 10/.
