WANGANUI DEFEATS TAIHAPE. On Cook’s Gardens yesterday the Wanganui rep. hockey eleven defeated a Visiting Taihape team by seven goals to three. The game was played in beautiful weather, before a fairly good attendance. Wanganui < red and white) led off from the outset, and made the pace a cracker. in the first spell the home side notched five goals, three by Simmonds. who showed considerable force and accuracy, one by Breed, and one by Blundell. The Wanganui defence was seldom troubled, but on one occasion Taihape (yellow and black) swept right down the field, Blackie, a clever and nippy forward, finding the net with a stinging shot. In the second spell the reds pressed hard and several successive hits from the circle went wide of the net. Taihape rallied, but Howatson saved, and sent Hawkins on a gallop down the left wing. Hawkins centred io Simmonds, and the latter found the net. Taihape made a lightning rally, but Martis saved and the reds had further useless shots, Blundell having stiff luck on several occasion. The yellow and blacks got temporary relief, but from the left wing Jones centrde and Blundell got the net. Taihapc immediately attacked, and found their way to the Wanganui circle, where Blackic beat the goalkeeper and scored an easy goal. Keeping up the pressure the yellows kept Wanganui on the defence and just before time Blackie secured another goal for the visitors.
