THE PEACE TREATY.

NEW YORK. Jan. 29. The Times’ Washington correspondent states that Senator Hitchcock, fearing the termination of the bi partism Treaty compromis.• conferences, announced that he would move to take up the Treaty on the floor of the Senate if the conferences were definitely discontinued. Senator Lodge announced that he will in no circumstances permit of any changes in his reservation to article 10 ot the Monroe doctrine. There seems little hope of securing success by compromise though Senator Hitchcock declares that an agreement on article ID might be reached if the conferences accept a plan by which Congress must- take up arms to defend the imperilled nations.
