THE AUSTRALIAN MEETING. Received 9.30 p.m., Jan. 30. SYDNEY, Jan. 30. The weather is fine and the ground in good order for to-morrow’s athletic championships. Critics are favourably impressed with the New Zealanders doings, and consider them highly capable of giving a good account of themselves in several events. At the'official welcome to the teams it was claimed the competitors at the coming meeting would make it the . most representative gathering ever seen in Australia. AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. SYDNEY ,Jan. 30. The Australaiiaai amateur athletic championships down for decision tomorrow will include the 100 yards, 440 yards, and mile running events, the running broad jump, the 120 yards hurdles, three mile walk, pole vault, and putting the shot. All’the contestants are strenuously completing their training. On Thursday evening a 75 yards handicap was run off on Cook’s Gardens, under the auspices of the Wanganui A.A. Club. There were five starters, and the race was an excellent one, Da ins. syds, winning by a few inches from R. Phillipson, syds. F. Packer and J. Lynch, lyd, each, and R. Darby 3yds, were the other starters, and they finished in line just behind the other two.
