INFLUENZA.
IN NEW YORK. NEW YORK, Jan. 29. A number of influenza cases reported in New York since the Ist January total 1.9,763. The number reported yesterday was 5589, which surpasses the highest single day total in 1918. The epidemic health officers report that the present .influema is of a milder form than that of 1918. PRECAUTIONS IN MELBOURNE. SYDNEY, Jan. 30. In view of its reappareance elsewhere, the Federal health authorities are taking timely precautions against a possible influenza revisitation. Everything is reported to be ir readiness to handle the situation should an outbreak occur.
