HUNTERVILLE NOTES.

Work has commenced on the new tennis and croquet lawns adjoining the bowling club’s green. It is hoped to have these in readiness for next season. Members of the Bowling Club arc requested to play off their competition matches before the end of Feb. ruary. A complimentary social and dance was tendered to Mr and Mrs W. G. Gray by the residents of Hunter vllle and district on Friday evening, January 23rd. the occasion being the retirement of Mr Gray from the position of Constable-in-charge of this district, which he has held for 22 years. During the evening Mr G. Clark, in a few well-chosen words, expressed the good feelings that had always existed between Mr Gray and the residents of the district, and concluded by asking him to accept a silver cream jug as a token of their esteem. Mr Gray suitably responded. Miss Mollie Reid and Mr Guy sang very acceptably, Mr Mayasun officiated at the piano and Mr J. H. Townsend acted as M.C. The local school re'opens on Tuesday next, February 3rd. The school committee intend carrying out some improvements but are waiting the, acceptance of tenders by the Wanganui Education Board. A sports meeting is being promot. ed by the local Caledonian Society on Wednesday, February 4th. to be followed by a concert in the Argyle Hall in the evening.
