SCHOOL HOLIDAYS EXTENDED. A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE. (Per Press Association.) Jan. 29. Owing to .the prevalence of mild influenza the Public Health Department has decided to ask the public and private schools in Auckland and Wellington and Taranaki districts to remain closed tor the present instead of reopening next week. Dr. Makgili, acting chief health officer, states that this must not be interpreted as meaning that the epidemi • is assuming a more serious type. At the request of the Public Health Department, the re-opening of the Nelson Boys and Girls’ Colleges, and the schools in the Nelson Education Board’s district has been, postponed for . one week. It is not known for how long the dosing restriction will continue, but its immediate effect will he that the schools will not re-open after the summer holidays until Monday, February 9th. The above restrictions will also extend to the secondary schools under the Board's jurisdiction. including the Wanganui Technical College, where, in the meantime, the opening date has been extended to February 10th.
