ALLOWANCES RETROSPECTIVE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 29. Application for retrospective children’s allowance approved last session are not being received by the Defence Department as freely as was expected despite the fact that details of the scheme have been widely published. The wife of any soldier (or guardian of his children) who has not received the maximum rate of children’s allowance (1/6 a day) for the full period* of his military service is advised to communicate immediately with the Officer in Command War Expenses, Wellington, it being necessary to clear up all cases to which the grant is applicable as expeditiously as possible.
