It is'tea years since either Mr. Massey or Sir Joseph Ward made any pronouncement with regard to Prohibition and Taxation. • When passing: present Licensing Legislation, neither of them made any reference to increased taxation necessary. They had just returned from Canada and America. While there they learned that Americaa surrendered £90,000,000 per year Liquor Revenue without any suggestion of further taxation. Sir James Allen, Minister of Finance in Mr. Massey's Cabinet, stated that if Prohibition were carried he had no anxiety about the Eevenue. • Liquor costs the country at least £9,000,000.
