BOOKMAKERS FINED.

GISBORNE> Dec. 4. At th<! Magistrate's Court, Robert Roland Kidson and Francis William Eriok.tfin were charged before Mr Barton, SM., that, being occupiers of a grocery store, they did keep and use such premises asa common gaming house. They were further charged with frequenting Gladstone Itoad, a public place ; for the purpose of betting. The charges were laid as the result of i police raid. Each accused was fined £25, and on a second charge Kidso/i was fined £1. The Magistrate said it was stated by a, detective that the Telegraph Office was used for betting transfictions. This was well known, and the Goveran ent did nothing to see that the law was not properly carried out. The position was Gilbertian.
