NOT "FAKED" PROPAGANDA.

We have to thank the "Herald" for drawing our attention to three sins of omission during recent mornings. The telegraphic reports of Mr. Massey's great meetings at Riverton, Oamaru and Waimate were inadvertently ascribed by us to the Press Association, whereas they should have, been ascribed to special correspondents; this was so " obviously an error on our part that the "Herald" refrained from copying the telegrams on any of the three days on which they appeared. That such an error can occur in a newspaper office is known perfectly well to the editor of the "Herald." Perusal of his own files —and that perusal need not go far back —will convince him of this. He even now admits that the paper which he has held up as a paragon of virtues —the "N.Z. Herald" —can inadvertently ascribe to the Press Association a telegram which should have been ascribed to a "special"! But while we thank the "Herald" for drawing attention to the* errors in connection with the reports X>t the Prime Minister's speeches—we openly confess that the messages were specials—we cannot refrain from pointing out that the "Herald" is employing the old dodge of drawing a red herring across the scent. It is trying to make people forget its despicable conduct in connection with the "special" plot of which it now stands self-convicted. People, however, do .not have such short memories as the "Herald" would like to believe.
