According to a Press Association message the Port Carolina, which is on her maiden voyage, left Liverpool on November 2'V for Auckland Her other ports an.? to be Wellington, Lyttelton. and Dunedin.

Tho Y\ JittKjitane left Montreal on November 22nd for Auckland, where she is duo snout January 6tn. Under charter of the A and A Line, the steamer Armagh left Avonmouth on November loth for New York to load for New Zealand and Australia.

Maiilier and Oversea, of New York, in their report dated September 15th, stated in regard to shipping matters that there is very little now.in the situation. Freight is offering, very slowly, so that steamers are delayed on thfe herth for longer periods than usual ow> ing to the impossibility of getting sufficient cargo to fill. This has resulted in fewer steamers being chartered or lai-I or. tlio berth for the Australian trade, and the dispatches arc at longer periods. ; F.reisht rates continue very firm,' and as ths cost of operating steamships anpairs to bo increasing, should cny chango occur in rates it would probably mean advance.

As a result of a deputation of local bodies to the Union Company management, Dunedin and the Bluff are to have regular steamer service with Australia. One steamer will run from Melbourne, Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, Wellington, and>>to Melbourne; the other from Melbourne, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff and to Melbourne.
