MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

«^«^ A special meeting of the Marton Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present —The Mayor (presiding), Crs Sutcliffe, Bill, and Christensen. An apology was received from Cr Holder on account of illness. The Auditor-General wrote, forwarding balance sheet for year 1918----19, duly certified to. The balancesheet was minus any tag attached. —It was moved by Cr Christensen, seconded by Cr Bill, that the balancesheet for the past year be adopted. —Carried. A letter was received from Chas. H. Sewell, commercial traveller, agreeing to accept £5 in full satisfaction of, his claim against the Council for being ousted out of the Town Hall supper. room when he had all his goods unpacked to do business with shopkeepers.^—The amount was passed for payment. A long discussion took place with regard to the opinion of Councillors re Town Hall site and new theatre. —It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Sutcliffe, seconded by Cr Chris-

tensen, that the Council shall not build on the present Town Hall site. —Carried. —Resolved, on the motion of Cr. Christensen. seconded by Cr. Sutcliffe, that the Finance Committee be empowered to enter into negotiations for acquiring a suitable site to erect a new theatre, to cost approximately £14,000 and report to Council. —Carried. The Council unanimously resolved to increase the Town Clerks salary to £350 per annum, and his assistant, Miss L. Batten, to £104 per annum from Ist January, 1920. Resolved that all Borough workmen be paid for three days at Christmas time, also three days at New Year.
