"DAMAGED GOODS."
fa , SPECIAL SEASON AT HIS
MAJESTY'S
There Avill be a special presentation at His Majesty'g on Thursday and Friday next of "Damaged Goods," a seven-act sociological and educational drama. In accordance wtih the ruling of the New Zealand censor, the Thursday screening will be for women only, and that on Friday afternoon for women only. "Damaged Goods" is a picture which, it is said, tells the whole truth about the cause and effect of venereal diseases. But it is presented cleanly, as well as interestingly, and is free from the suggestive taint of the sex problem play. It does not parade evil for an unworthy purpose, and it shows how the innocent may become the victims of the sons of others. It shows how many lives are wrecked owing to ignorance, prudery, and indifference, and the consequences of parents failing to acquaint their children with facts they ought to be told. Among many testimonials to the value of "Damaged Goods" as a moral educator may be quoted that of the Rev. E. A. Cox, M.A., who, speaking at Auckland recently after seeing the picture, said: "Every man and women, young and old, should see this picture, and if I had my way I would have it compulsorily shown in every hall, large and small, throughout New Zealand." As to the clean way in which the subject is handled, the Evening Post (Wellington) said: "The prurient-minded who hope that in 'Damaged Goods' they will find something to their taste will be rudely disappointed. They will receive instead a wholesome warning which they will do well to profit by." The box plans are now on view at Upton's, and early booking is advised.
