WANGANUI MALE CHOIR.
OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT.
The attentiou of our readers is finally drawn to the concert by this fine combination, which eventuates this evening. The choir is in good form, and the public are in for a musical treat. The programme is very com!pi'\ehensive, and novelties will be introduced in the shape of "The Servian Serenade," in which Mr W. H. Christie will sing the melody whilst the choir will take the humming chorus; the part song, "In Vocal Combat," which consists of the mingling of two well-known songs in such a manner that each makes itself the accompaniment of the other; and the descriptive song, "The Anvil." Other items will be the rollicking cantata, "King Olaf's Christmas,' "Hope, and "Nightfall." The Miale Choir quartette will sing "Good Night, Beloved." The Hawera Male Choir will contribute two items, "A Song for England," and "The Tziganes." Mrs Johns will sing "Morning," "Soul of Mine," and "Waiata Maori," and we have no doubt she will acquit herself with distinction. Mr G. . Austin Blackie possesses a magnificent tenor voice, which will be heard to advantage in the songs he has chosen, viz., "Laurette," "A Spirit Flowier," and "Lolita."' The great reception this artist received in Hawera on Monday night was very gratifying, and doubtless he will receive as great a welcome here. Miss Ethel Bignell, L.A.8.. will play the accompaniments, whilst in Mr Walter Shepley, the acting conductor, the choir will have & splendid leader. Altogether the function is bound to be a great success, and our readers are strongly advised to get along •early to the Opera House to-night.
