STEAMERS HELD UP.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 2.
Twelve of the Northern Company's steamers are held up in port to-day owing to a deadlock in regard to the-' question of holding an early confer* ence to discuss the new agreement between the owners and the Merchant Service Guild. The old agreement expired on October 22nd, and ttie owners informed the Guild that a conference could not take place until after Christmas. The date was subsequently altered to December 15. The Guild then demanded a conference by next Friday, and after further negotiation the Northern Company offered to meet-the Guild on December, 9th. Members of the Guild are considering the situatio'n^ and meanwhile vessels are held up-
