LICENSING CASE.

BREACH OF LAW

At the Magistrate's Court yesterday the licensee of the Aramoho Hotel, W. J. Williams, was charged with selling liquor after- hours and with keeping his housa open at a time when it was required to be closed.

Constable Egan said that about1 10 o'clock on-Sunday morning, November Ind, as he was going through the hotel, he saw a man in the bar parlour in the act of drinking a pint of beer. Witness obtained his name and address, which was George Williams, labourer, of Aramoho: Witness afterwards interviewed the barman, who .admitted that he had supplied a glass of beer to the man, who paid 6d for it." Witness had maie inouiries, but had found no one oC the name of George Williams living in Aramoho. The licensee was aCterwards interviewed by witness, au;l denied all1, knowledge of the affair, and further stated that he had given instructions for no liquor to he supplied except at the proper times. The barman said, in reply to the inspector, that he had never seen' the man before, and that he got on the "soft side" of witness. The licensee said that Mitchell, the uarinau, had received explicit instructions not to sell liquor on Sundays or after hours, and that he was there on Snnday morning solely for the purpose of clearing out. The house was open for the same purpose. •■ Upon the charge of selling liquor the licensee was fined 4 0/- and was ordered to pay costs. The second information was dismissed.
