LAST TIME.
HOLLAND AND WARD
Mr W. T. Young, who was president of the Red Federation during the big strike, did some striking Tor the Ward Party in 1914. His signature appeared at the foot of a card instructing seamen how to vote. The card gave a list of candidates approved by Mr Young and his comrades, arid from it we gather this curious conjunction:—
Wellingtan North . . H. E. Holland (Editor of the Reds' official organ). Awarua Sir Joseph Ward
(Baronet)
Mr Holland, the present leader of the official Labour Party, is the Red whoa year previously described the Governor as "Mr Liverpool, Lord Liverpool, the gilded popinjay." Yet it was Mr Holland's fate to be on the came list with New Zealand's only holder of a hereditary title in the political arena.
However, Mr Holland did not seem to be grateful for the distinction. He issued a "dodger" on which the names Holland, Herclmari, and Turnbull appeared in black type. There was a policy sketched under Holland and under Herdman. Under Turnbull appeared the line, "Liberal candidate stands for"— Then came a column of blank space.
