SHEARERS' ACCOMMODATION

(Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, May 6

A deputation representing the Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Union waited upon Hon. Herries, urging better accommodation for shearers. Member of the deputation declared that some quarters provided were very bad, and in the interests of humanity something should be done. The need for more adequate legislature to govern the providing of accommodation for shearers was stressed. A request was made that thi? Government should take over the Bill once introduced by Mr. Veitch, M.P. Hon. Herries said from the point of view of the men, ;he Act did not go far enough. The Act required only that an owner should provide a certain amount of air space. He was not Minister of Labour, but he would put the matters before Mr. Massey, and would urge Mr. Massey to make an amendment of the existing law.
