HELPING THE BACKBLOCKS SCHOOL.
Cabinet has approved regulations to provide for the employment oil organising teachers. This is an attempt to give some aid to the small hack-blocks school where the teacher is uncertificated and illtrained. It would be impossible to provide the trained teachers in the apace of months or even a year or two, but those at present holding the positions can be helped materially by the advice and practical aid of a teacher specially selected for the work. The organising teachers will take each school in their districts for not more than a week, and they will not replace the inspectors. This proposal has the advantage ol" bringing the organiser into touch with the actual back-block conditions, so that lie will realise that it is useless to
merely set out an ideal of education which cannot possibly be applied. Possibly some of the organising teachers will have their eyes opened tc the back-block hardships and will be very effective organising agents tor the teachers and children in these neglected areas.
