PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The annual general, meeting of the Plnnket Society was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday, Ist May. Mr. C. P. Brown presided.

It was moved by the Chairman that the Annual Report and Balance Sheet which had already been sent to members be adopted. This was seconded by Mrs Comyns. Mr. Urown stated that the work of the Society -hud grown considerably. The lii>t year or its existence the expenditure was £156, and this the 7th year, the expenditure was £950. He also pointed out that although the work and the expenditure had increased the subscription^ and donations had not. Tho tirst year the subscriptions am. 1, donations were £150, the seventh £131. The Government subsidy had largely kept the work going. There had been a successful street collection, the best the Society had had. but he looked forward to tho tiriK* when it would be unneces- \ sary to raise tlu-ir money by sue.-i means. He referred to the appointment of two new nurses —Nurses Wilson and Adams to replace Nurse Feutz «nd Karifrme Nurse Hendry—and he paid a special tribute to Nurse Feut/.'s work. He s-aid her severe illness "was due largely to her duty to her patient?, and long after she Mas lit to nork she managed to give her advice over tho telephone, when she should have been in hospital herself. With regard to fc>tewart Home, at this meeting he reported that the Advisory Board were some distance further forward. There were several questions that had to bo thrashed out before they felt justified in opening the Home, more especially the j question of papering. It was two years \ since the house had been vacated, and j naturally the wear and tear during that period had not improved it. If tho \ Borough or Hospital Board did not do the work, it would make very serious inroads mto the finances of the Society. However, the Advisory Board were negotiating with both bodies and he hoped to have a satisfactory settlement, j Election of Officers. —Tjie election of officers resulted : President, Mrs Izett; Vice-Presidents, Mesdames Hope-Gib-bons, Stevenson, Harper, D'Arcy, Neame. Izett, HnrpiT, Spurdle, Hine, Crawford^ D'Arcy, Lloyd, McLeod, Herbert MciSeill, Blamires, Fox, Sampson, Rutledge, Misses Cowper and Parkes; Advisory Board, Messi's John Stevenson, G. P. Brown, N.Z.L.L.8., Hope Gibbons and V*-itch, M.P.; Honorary Auditor, Mr. J. P. Williamson; Plunkefc Nurses, Mi«ses Wilson and Adams.

Mr. C. P. Brown moved and Mr3 Neame seconded that the following resolution be plr/'ed on record regarding the work of their late President, Mrs Hope-Gibbons: "Tjhat this 'Society nlaces on record their sincere thanks to Mrs Gibbons, for her past work, it being; largely due to her energy that the Society was in the position it is to-day, and "great rr-gmt be expressed that for health reasons Mrs Gibbons had had to retire just at the present time when the Stewart Horn** was to be onevned." Both she and Mr. Hom j-Gibbons have devoted ■a.tremendous amount of time and

energy in the interest of the Society and Home, and they trusted that she would soon be well enough to take an active part in the work." Resignations. —Misses Cummins and i Newcombe resigned their positions as j Treasurer and Secretary, and a vote of i thanks was passed for the work they 'Lave done.

Town Planning.—lt was resolved that Mrs Neame be appointed delegate for the Society.
