IT has come to the knowledge of this -*- Association that certain rumours or reports have been circulated by some persons unknown concerning 10/447 " Sergeant-'G. McAneny, wlio recently returned to Wanganui after undergoing the hardships and privations of three \ears' captivity in Turkey as a prisoner of war, having been captured, after being wounded, during the attack at Gallipoli on August 8, 1915. The report is to the effect that on the occasion of his capture Sergt. McAneny failed to make a proper resistance and irr effect gave himself up to the enemy. We have made it our business to make the fullest possible enquiries as to this statement from men who took part in \he engagement in which Sergt. McAneny was captured, and are satisfied that the statement is entirely false, that tho circumstances oi the capture reflected no discredit on Sergt. McA»?eny's courage or military honour, jiiid that the capture was a misfortune such as might o::r-ur to any brave and Honourable toldier. A Court of Inquiry was held on the matter at Ismailia, in Egypt, on-Sergt. McAneny's return from captivity, in accordance with the universal practice m such cases, and the result was to entirely exonerate him. For the Committee. N. G. WOODS. President. " OLD MOTOR TYRES.
